What is and how to fix a Tired-Looking Eyes?

The term “tired-looking eyes” is commonly used to describe a facial look characterized by sunken eyes, drooping eyelids, dark circles, and lowered eyebrows.

This appearance can make a person look fatigued, stressed, tired, or even unwell, no matter how much rest they’ve had. The causes of a tired-looking appearance are numerous and vary from person to person.

So, how can you fix a tired-looking appearance? Dr. Lina Triana explains it in this video.

Why Does a Tired-looking Eyes Happen?

Genetic Factors: Some people may inherit a tendency to have thinner skin around the eyes, making blood vessels more visible and leading to dark circles. Additionally, the bone structure of the face can affect how shadows are cast around the eyes, contributing to a more sunken and darker appearance.

Aging: As we age, our skin loses collagen and elastin, resulting in thinner and less firm skin. The muscles around the eyes also weaken, leading to the formation of under-eye-bags. The loss of fat and volume in the face further contributes to this appearance, creating a shadow under the eyes that can resemble dark circles.

Stress and Fatigue: When we are stressed or tired, blood flow to the skin may decrease, making it look paler and dark circles more prominent. Additionally, lack of sleep can cause the body to release cortisol, a hormone that can break down the skin collage, worsening the tired appearance.

Dehydration: Dehydration can make the skin around the eyes look dull and sunken, accentuating dark circles and fine lines. When the body doesn’t get enough water, the skin can lose its elasticity and volume, contributing to a tired-looking appearance.

Lifestyle and habits: Excessive alcohol and tobacco use can damage the skin, causing it to lose its glow and elasticity. Lack of sleep, an imbalanced diet, and excessive sun exposure without proper protection can accelerate skin aging, leading to a more tired and aged appearance.

A Tired-Looking Appearance Can Be a Warning Sign

In some cases, a tired-looking appearance can be a symptom of underlying health issues. Conditions like anemia, thyroid problems, or chronic sinusitis can manifest through a tired look. For example, anemia reduces the amount of oxygen that reaches the tissues, including the skin, making it look pale and tired.
