DISMISSING MYTHS OF HAIR HEALTH

Nowadays, the internet and especially social media, offers us a large amount of information and recommendations on hair health, but they do not always come from professionals on the subject. It is crucial to rely on accurate data and consult with specialists to make informed decisions. Myths can lead to unrealistic expectations and wrong decisions, so it is best to turn to professionals on the subject.

Below, we address some of the most common myths about hair health and hair implants circulating on social media, along with the reality behind them:

Washing your hair every day causes more hair loss

MYTH Washing your hair regularly does not cause hair loss. Washing usually depends a lot on hair type and lifestyle. Some hair types may benefit from daily washing, especially if the scalp is very oily. However, for others, washing hair too frequently can strip away natural oils, causing dryness and damage.

Frequent use of hats causes baldness

MYTH The continuous use of hats or caps will not cause baldness over time and there is no scientific evidence to prove it.  Hair loss is more related to genetic, hormonal factors and some medical conditions.

Hair implants are permanent and do not require maintenance

MYTH The results of hair implants are long-lasting because the implanted hair comes with the correct genetic information, therefore, they normally do not fall out, it is false that it does not require maintenance or subsequent treatment, for example that is why hair implant surgery should be complemented with topical treatments, different types of lasers and other technologies to also treat the loss of hair that was not implanted and maintain the transplanted hair over time.

Hair implants are painful

MYTH Modern hair implant procedures, such as the Neograft Triana FUE technique, which is robotic, pneumotic and systematized, are performed under local anesthesia, which minimizes pain during surgery. Patients may experience some discomfort after the procedure, but it is usually manageable with pain relievers.

Tobacco accelerates hair loss

Fact. Tobacco can contribute to hair loss due to its negative effects on blood circulation; the decrease in irrigation, nutrition and oxygenation of hair follicles contributes to their progressive miniaturization. This, in the long term, can cause some degree of alopecia in people who do not suffer from it, or accelerate it in people who do.

It is important before making any decision that has to do with our hair health to have the recommendations of an expert on the subject, who makes a prior assessment of the condition of the hair and scalp in order to offer the ideal treatment plan according to your needs.
