Excess Skin and Fat: How to Solve It

Excess skin and fat on the body can occur due to a variety of factors that, in many cases, affect people’s health and well-being. How to solve it? The answer is in this video by Dr. Lina Triana.

Causes of excess skin and fat

Significant changes in body weight: Rapid weight loss or gain can cause excess skin. When a person gains weight, the skin stretches to accommodate the additional volume. If weight is then lost rapidly, the skin may not regain its original elasticity, resulting in excess sagging skin.

Aging: Over time, the production of collagen and elastin in the skin decreases, reducing its elasticity and firmness. This natural process can contribute to the appearance of excess skin, especially in areas such as the arms, the abdomen and the face.

Genetic factors: These influence the distribution of body fat and the elasticity of the skin. Some people are more prone to accumulating fat in certain areas or to developing excess skin due to their genetic inheritance.

Pregnancy: During this period, the skin of the abdomen stretches to accommodate the baby’s growth. After childbirth, the skin may not fully return to its previous state, especially if there was significant weight gain or multiple pregnancies.

Obesity: The excessive accumulation of fat in the body, especially in people with obesity, can lead to a constant stretching of the skin in various areas of the body.

Problems associated with excess skin and fat

It affects the skin: Excess skin can cause irritation, infections and rashes, especially in areas where there are folds that rub against each other. The accumulation of moisture and bacteria in these folds increases the risk of dermatitis and other skin conditions.

Psychological impact: The presence of excess skin and fat can affect a person’s self-esteem and body image. Some individuals may experience embarrassment or discomfort, which can lead them to avoid certain social or physical activities.

Physical limitations: In severe cases, excess skin can restrict movement and mobility, making it difficult to carry out daily activities or physical exercise.

Difficult hygiene: Maintaining proper hygiene can be a challenge due to the additional skin folds, which increases the risk of infections and unpleasant odors.

Metabolic drawbacks: There is a higher risk of developing metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

It is important to recognize that excess skin and fat is not only an aesthetic concern, but can also have significant implications for physical and mental health.
