After having spent several years with breast implants, some women make the decision to remove them, either because they feel that having a large breast is not their priority, because it is time to do an implant change and they do not want to have to do it again in the future, or simply because they no longer want to have them.
Making the decision to have a breast explant (implant removal) as a patient can be quite difficult, since I do not like to promise my patient a perfect result, but to tell the truth, the breast area always has enough muscle, fat and/or breast tissue to perform the reconstruction and end up with a smaller but proportionate breast.

Am I a candidate for a breast implant removal?
Any woman who does not want to continue with breast implants, either because having a large breast is no longer her priority, because it is time to change her implants and she does not want to replace them, or simply she does not want them anymore, is a good candidate for a breast implant removal.
How do I perform a breast implant removal?
The truth is that only after opening the breast and removing the breast implant, the surrounding scar tissue and the capsule, it is simply not possible to really know what and how much tissue will be available to perform the breast reconstruction. But usually the breast area always has enough muscle, fat and/or breast tissue to do the reconstruction and end up with a smaller but proportionate breast.
How is the recovery after a breast implant removal?
When you leave the breast implant removal surgery, we may leave you with a drain that will allow us to eliminate all the liquid that has remained inside; it will be necessary to use a compression bra for about a month after your surgery.
Recommendations
After your explant, it is important to keep the breast well-supported for at least two weeks, and to avoid physical activity for up to two months after the surgery.
Understanding each woman’s personal reasons for undergoing breast implant removal is essential. That is why it is important to work with a compassionate and experienced surgeon who can offer the emotional support needed throughout the process. Throughout the consultations, your concerns and expectations will be addressed, as well as the possible complications and risks associated with the procedure.
