FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
Are you a candidate for facial rejuvenation?
If you’re bothered by the visual signs of aging on your face and want to improve the appearance of your face and neck, this procedure may be right for you. It can be performed at any age, although it is generally recommended for individuals over 40.
What is the difference between a short-scar and long-scar facelift?
- A facelift (rhytidectomy) can be performed using two types of incisions:
- Short scar: An incision is made in front of the ear. This option is suitable for mild to moderate aging without significant sagging in the neck.
- Long scar: The incision goes around the ear (both front and back) and extends into the scalp. This technique is recommended when there is more advanced sagging that cannot be corrected with a short scar.
To determine the best approach, I carefully consider your age, facial structure, and unique features in order to achieve a natural, harmonious result.
- Short scar: An incision is made in front of the ear. This option is suitable for mild to moderate aging without significant sagging in the neck.
How is facial rejuvenation surgery performed?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, as agreed upon by the anesthesiologist and the patient. For the short-scar technique, the facial muscles are tightened (plicated) to create a natural vertical lift, with the incision placed in front of the ear.
What is the recovery like after a facelift?
After the surgery, you will leave the operating room with drains and a dressing, and you will remain in the hospital overnight for observation. The next day, both the drains and the dressing will be removed. During the first week, it’s recommended to wear a chin strap all day. For the following three weeks, the strap should only be worn at night to support healing and muscle repositioning.
